Tony Nwoye has been declared winner of the Anambra State governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress, APC. The 42-year-old medical doctor and politician scored 2,146 votes to beat his closest rival, politician Andy Uba, who scored 931 votes. The Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, announced the result in Awka on Sunday after the keenly contested primary by 11 candidates for the November 18 governorship election. Mr. Nwoye, now a member of House of Representatives (Anambra East/West constituency) was a student union activist before becoming a politician. A twin, he was born in Onitsha on September 13,1974 to Lawrence and Christiana Nwoye of Offianta Nsugbe in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State. He attended Metropolitan Secondary School, Onitsha, for his secondary education from where he proceeded to study medicine at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Saturday morning turned out to be social-media-free for a number of Facebook and Instagram users, albeit involuntarily. Some people reported difficulties accessing the two social platforms beginning at about 9 a.m. ET, according to Down Detecto r, a site that tracks real-time outages and other online issues. Facebook acknowledged the outage in a statement sent to CNNMoney. "Earlier today, a technical issue caused some people to have trouble accessing Facebook services. We quickly investigated and are currently restoring service for everyone. We're sorry for any inconvenience," a Facebook spokesperson said. It's unclear what caused the technical issue. Many took to Twitter to air their frustrations with not being able to use the popular social media platform. One Twitter user shared a login error screenshot that read, "Facebook is down for required maintenance right now, but you should be able to get back on within a few minutes....
