Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state has vowed to prosecute parents who fail to send their children to school in September. Speaking during the screening of the “He named me Malala,” documentary organised by his wife, Hadiza, the governor said any parent who failed to send their children to school would be sent to jail, The Punch reports. “ You can leave Kaduna state if you don’t want to send your child to school next month. No street begging again. All our children must go to school. Any parent who refuses to send his or her child to school will be prosecuted and sent to prison ,” he said. Also speaking, the governor’s wife, Hadiza, said the percentage of girls who were out of school was too high. According to her, young girls constituted a significant percentage of the population and must be supported with education and training required to ensure that they contributed effectively to the society. Former Plateau state governor, Jang to face EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has started investigation of former Plateau state governor, Jonah Jang, over his inability to account for some funds which belong to the state. Leadership learnt that the government of Plateau state, had in a petition to the anti-graft agency, stated that it found out financial mismanagement after going through the handover notes left by the ex-governor. Former Plateau state governor Jonah Jang An official of the anti-graft body said the petition to EFCC, revealed that: “Under Jonah Jang as governor of Plateau State N2 billion was released by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for the Small and Medium Scale(SME) businesses in Plateau State. The N2 billion was released to Jang in April of 2015, a month before the expiration of his administration. The entire money disappeared. Northern governors employ British firm for oil exploration

A British firm has been appointed by the 19 northern state governments to carry out the exploration activities for oil and gas. This move is coming two weeks after President Muhammadu Buhari gave the order to the Nigeria National Petroleum Commission (NNPC) to commence the exploration of oil in the north. The Northern Nigeria Development Company which is owned by the 19 northern states revealed that the exploration for oil and gas in the Lake Chad and Benue basins had commenced using the services of the British company. Boko Haram releases new video of Chibok girls

In the video, the dreaded terrorist group showed the faces of some girls numbering about 50, in hijabs. A Boko Haram member in front of the captured girls. An unknown Boko Haram terrorist asked the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government to release its fighters who were captured by security operatives in exchange for the girls. In a series of tweets, Ahmad Salkida, a journalist who has had access to Boko Haram, confirms that the girls in the video are indeed the abducted Chibok girls, and that some of them have fallen victims to airstrikes from the Nigerian Air Force in a bid to decimate the terrorist group.
