Facebook, Instagram experience outages Saturday

Image
Saturday morning turned out to be social-media-free for a number of Facebook and Instagram users, albeit involuntarily. Some people reported difficulties accessing the two social platforms beginning at about 9 a.m. ET, according to Down Detecto r, a site that tracks real-time outages and other online issues. Facebook acknowledged the outage in a statement sent to CNNMoney. "Earlier today, a technical issue caused some people to have trouble accessing Facebook services. We quickly investigated and are currently restoring service for everyone. We're sorry for any inconvenience," a Facebook spokesperson said. It's unclear what caused the technical issue. Why Arsenal are in trouble with or without Alexis Sanchez - Danny Murphy

Image
Arsenal's summer has been largely dominated by Alexis Sanchez's future - and will continue to be until Thursday's transfer deadline has passed - but Sunday's demoralising defeat at Liverpool showed there are bigger issues to deal with. In losing 4-0 at Anfield, Arsenal showed tactically they are nowhere near their rivals for a top-four place in the Premier League. More worryingly, they lacked hunger and they don't look like a team. I genuinely don't know what Arsene Wenger is saying to them on the training ground. It is unbelievable what we watched against Liverpool. They are making such basic mistakes. Were there any positives for Arsenal? No. Absolutely none. Before the start of the season I predicted Arsenal would finish outside of the top four. Obviously I haven't changed my mind. It was a just a shambles from a team which wants to develop after missing out on Champions League football for the first time in 20 years. It is the same old...

Mayweather vs. McGregor: Highlights From Every Round

Image
Conor McGregor is a showman, a tough customer and a brilliant mixed martial artist. On Saturday night in Las Vegas he showed he could box too. But not nearly well enough to beat Floyd Mayweather, one of the all-time greats of the game. Mayweather, out of retirement at age 40, won the fight on a 10th round TKO to take his record to 50-0. McGregor, a 4-1 underdog with bookies, but 100-1 with many boxing experts, proved he wasn’t hopelessly overmatched in a sport he had never before competed in professionally. Mayweather’s strategy seemed to be to frustrate McGregor for long enough to exhaust him, then finish the job. It worked. “Our game plan was to take our time, then take him out at the end, down the stretch,” Mayweather said after the fight. McGregor looked sharp in the first rounds, landing some blows, although also missing many because of Mayweather’s vaunted defense. As the rounds went by, though, he began to get sluggish, leaving opening...

Credit Tom Brenner/The New York Times WASHINGTON — President Trump wrapped up a sparkling late-summer weekend at Camp David on Sunday. But his Twitter feed and the photos and statements released by the White House indicated that he did little other than monitor the catastrophic storm in Texas. On Friday, as Hurricane Harvey began lashing the Gulf Coast, and throughout the weekend, Mr. Trump posted regular updates on the status of the storm and praise for the government’s response. He held two teleconferences with members of his cabinet, announced that he would travel to Texas on Tuesday, and signed a federal disaster proclamation for the state. It was a calculated display of energetic presidential leadership — one hardly unique to the Trump administrati...
