Political corruption is a persistent phenomenon in Nigeria. President Muhammadu Buhari defined corruption as the greatest form of human right violation. Since the creation of modern public administration in the country, there have been cases of official misuse of funds and resources .[1] The rise of public administration and the discovery of oil and natural gas are two major events seen to have led to the increase in corrupt practices in the country. INEC chairman gets international appointment from ECOWAS

Nigeria’s representative, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who is also Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has emerged President of the ECOWAS Network of Electoral Commissions (ECONEC). Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, Yakubu’s Chief Press Secretary, said this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja. According to Oyekanmi, the INEC boss emerged president after a keen contest in Cotonou, Republic of Benin. Oyekanmi said the INEC chairman polled 10 votes to defeat his Guinean counterpart, who received four votes. He said that Republic of Benin and Guinea Bissau candidates emerged First and Second Vice Presidents respectively, while Burkina Faso clinched the position of Treasurer. Oyekanmi stated that Yakubu’s election followed two days of deliberations on how to deepen the conduct of free, transparent and credible elections as well as strengthen democracy in the sub-region. Recession: Councillor kills himself after wife disappears

Benbede Kichen, a one-time Councillor and father of nine, on Thursday, March 30, hung himself over alleged economic hardship and the unexplained absence of his wife from their home. Kichen, aged 43, popularly known as G.K. Bekegbo, hung himself with a bed sheet at about 4am on Wednesday and did not leave behind a note. press gathered that the late Councillor, who served as a supervisory member on Health of the Rural Development Authority (RDA) in 2000 during the late DSP Alameiseigha’s tenure, died after a desperate and frustrating search for his wife, Madam Beauty. Bisi Alimi reacts to Kemi Olunloyo's arrest, says it is a shame to the country (photos)

Gay Nigerian pastor, Bisi Alimi, has taken to his Instagram page to express his displeasure of the arrest and detention of controversial journalist, Kemi Olunloyo. On Thursday, March 30, press reported that Olunloyo had been remanded in prison for the second time in two weeks after she was granted bail. Alimi expressed that the shame of Olunloyo is the shame of the whole country, adding that the act would only make her more popular. He further added that religious people who believe she deserves to be locked up are a disgrace to the country.
