President Muhammadu Buhari has called on Nigerians, especially Christians, to offer prayers to God to enable the country overcome its current challenges.
He also enjoined the people to show tolerance as that was the only way peace could reign.
Buhari, in his message on Christmas, asked Nigerians to pray for the troops fighting Boko Haram insurgency and the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in the North-East.
He assured that the country would get out of its economic woes as government was working hard to reflate the economy.
Tinubu: Set aside artificial differences
In his own message, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, said it was time for all Nigerians, Christians and non-Christians alike, to set aside the artificial differences that too often divide us and pit brother against brother, neighbour against neighbour. “We must dedicate ourselves to focusing on our common humanity because we all seek much the same thing for ourselves and loved ones. We all eat, sleep, love, worry, lament, cry, laugh, smile, dream and hope. Yes, our names and religious beliefs differ; some go to church, some to mosque. Some to other places of worship; some, perhaps not at all. Yet, we all seek a better world and a better Nigeria”, Tinubu stated.
Okowa: Committed to SMART Agenda
GOVERNOR Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State wished all Deltans and indeed all Nigerians a merry Christmas, happy and prosperous New Year in advance. The governor, in a message of felicitations by his Chief Press Secretary, Charles Aniagwu, Christians, prayed for God’s love to fill every heart and home.“It is my sincere hope and assurance that the New Year would usher in more progress, greater prosperity and endearing fulfillment for all. In spite of several challenges we have had to contend with as a state, I believe that we can all look forward to 2017 and beyond with greater optimism and hope. We remain fully committed to delivering on our SMART Agenda vision,” he said.
Ndoma-Egba’s message of hope and good tidings
The Chairman, Governing Board of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, urged Nigerians to have abiding hope of prosperity and good tiding in the yuletide and in the in-coming New Year.
In a press statement released by his media office, the former Senate Leader noted that the Christmas season is a time for reflection, and thus Nigerians need to stand united in spite of the challenges of the out-going year.
Ambode preaches love, peace
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State enjoined Nigerians to embrace the virtues of love and peaceful coexistence that the season symbolises.
The governor, in his Christmas message, signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Habib Aruna, urged Nigerians to also seize the moment to reach out to fellow Nigerians who are in distress at this period of the nation’s history.
APC urges Nigerians to persevere
The All Progressives Congress (APC) congratulated Christians across the country over the joyous occasion of Christmas.
In a message by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party urged Nigerians to be hopeful and persevere as it navigates the country away from recession.
Ugwuanyi: Pray for national rebirth
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State charged Christians to use the occasion of Christmas to pray for Nigeria’s national rebirth in the face of current economic recession and the myriads of other problems plaguing the nation.
He pointed out that since the Christendom celebrates the liberation of mankind by the birth of Jesus Christ at Christmas, it was correspondingly germane for Christians in Nigeria to use the season to embark on aggressive prayers during yuletide church services for divine intervention in the present affairs of the nation.
Ayade preaches peace
Cross River State Governor Ben Ayade, enjoined Christians not to despair in the face of the current recession, but rather should look to the future with renewed hope.
Ayade urged the Christian faithful to reflect on the import of Christmas brought about by the birth of the saviour, Jesus Christ and its redemptive hope to billions of Christians around the world.
In a goodwill message by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Ita, he urged Christians to use the opportunity of the celebration to rededicate themselves to the values of love, peace, sacrifice and tolerance as embodied in the birth of the Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Be sober and pray for economic recovery – Ortom

In a statement personally signed by the governor, Ortom said the season called for sober reflection on the part of the people and asked them to pray for quick economic recovery.
Let Christ Renew your Hope in Nigeria – Obiano
The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, called on Nigerian Christians to open their minds and allow the love of Jesus Christ renew their faith in Nigeria this Yuletide season and beyond.
In a message signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, James Eze, Obiano observed that Nigerian Christians should always remember that having Jesus Christ as “the author and finisher of their faith” is a guarantee of victory over all trials and tribulations in all seasons.
Obi calls for reflection
A former Gov. of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, called upon Christians to take the opportunity of the Yuletide to reflect on the mystery of our salvation, which, according to him, “started with the birth of Christ who paved a new way for us to attain eternity.”
“Let us all reach out and touch somebody else in a positive way. Let us give a hand to the less fortunate, that they may rise and walk with us”, Obi submitted.
Dogara, Lasun preach love, unity for national development
The speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and the Deputy Speaker, Yussuff Lasun, told Christians and non-Christians to live with love and peace for the peaceful co-existence and national development.
Both Dogara and Lasun in their separate message to mark Christmas in Abuja, yesterday, admonished Christians to walk in Christ’s footsteps, pray for Nigeria.
Dogara in his message, signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Turaki Hassan, told Christians to walk in Christ’s footsteps of love and peace towards one another, their neigbours and to humanity as a whole.
In his own message by his Chief Press Secretary, Wole Oladimeji, the Deputy Speaker, Lasun, urged Nigerians to remain united in the spirit of yuletide and to emulate the life of Jesus Christ and
eschew violence and corruption capable of bringing this country down.
Amosun calls for love
Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun called on Christians and indeed all Nigerians to embrace peace and love in all their dealings.
The governor spoke in a message signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Adejuwon Soyinka.
“As we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, it is time for us as a nation to reflect on the need to love our neighbours as ourselves and live a life of selfless service to our communities and nation as a whole,” Governor Amosun said.
Wike: Draw inspiration from Christ
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State urged Nigerians to draw inspiration from the birth of Jesus Christ, while rededicating themselves to the values of selfless service and pursuit of common good. Wike in a statement by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Dr. Austine Tam-George, said:”For Christians, the birth of Jesus Christ was not a mere biological incident, but that ‘Christmas represents a moment for spiritual and moral renewal in the lives of individuals and communities around the world.”We can use the spirit of Christmas to heal the wounds of acrimony and division, by working together for the benefit of all our people,leaving no citizen or community behind.”
Osanebi calls for sober reflection, harps on love
The Deputy Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Friday Ossai Osanebi, called on Ndokwa people, Deltans and Christians globally to reflect on the gains of Christmas to avoid abuse.
Osanebi, in his Christmas message, called on all to practically demonstrate the essence of the occasion, which centers on love, noting that the world at large needs love now like never before.
“Christmas is a season when we reflect and celebrate joy, peace, love and goodwill that the birth of our lord Jesus Christ symbolizes. It’s an eternal package of love and joy for those that truly understands the meaning and intent of Christmas”, he said.
