PDP warns against use of Judiciary to truncate democracy,

– The Ahmed Markafi led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says there should be a check on the way and manner politicians were shopping for injunctions and court orders
– Warn that if the current trend is allowed to continue, then a time will come when people who did not contest election will be made governor by the court
Ali Modu Sheriff has refused to step down as acting chairman of the PDP even after been told to step down by several members of the party.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned politicians against using the judiciary to threaten democracy in the country.
Senator Ahmed Markafi who gave the note of caution on Sunday, July 03, in Port Harcourt recalled recent developments in Abia , Edo and within the party as pointers to this fact.
On his part, Prince Dayo Adeyeye said there should be a check on the way and manner politicians were shopping for injunctions and court orders, stressing that it could truncate the nation democracy, Vanguard reports.
Adeyeye described as absurd the court order secured by Modu Sheriff and his team ordering the Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) should recognise only candidates from Ali Modu Sheriff’s Congress for the governorship election in Edo state.
He said: “Sherif has no legal basis to parade himself as chairman. One of the judgments is that Sherif was never chairman of the party. Then the convention of the party in Port Harcourt sacked Sherif and its team. So the political angle also does not see him as chairman of the party.”
“We already have a candidate for the Edo state election. He is pastor Ize Iyamu. INEC was not in Sheriffs elections. Pastor Iyamu has completed his form with INEC. I am saying we have a candidate in Edo and will have in Ondo state. Sherif is being used. Sherif and co are agents of APC. The candidates of Sherif participated in our primaries and came second, how did they come with their delegates?”
He warned that if the current trend is allowed to continue, then a time will come when people who did not contest election will be made governor by the court.
Recall that the ongoing leadership crisis in the PDP took a surprising turn
on Thursday, June 30 after a Federal High Court in Abuja restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting list of candidates for the governorship elections in Edo and Ondo from other leadership of PDP except form the Ali Modu Sheriff-led National Working Committee (NWC).
