This recent move by the army is generating controversy, as some of the affected officers who are linked to former president Goodluck Jonathan accuse the current administration of sectional and political bias. At the same time, the army attribute the retirement of the officers to involvement in corruption and political partisanship.

The forgery case against Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu brought before an Abuja High Court has been stalled as court officials confirmed that the two presiding officers of Senate have not been properly served with the charges.
Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu were scheduled to appear before the court over allegations of conspiracy and forgery of the Senate Standing Rules in 2015.
The Federal Government had, through the office of the Attorney General filed the charges Saraki and Ekweremadu as well as former Clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Abubakar Maikasuwa and his deputy, Mr. Benedict Efeturi.
But Ike Ekweremadu has absolved himself of any forging senate rules to pave way for the emergence of Bukola Saraki as Senate president.
Ekweremadu who spoke through a statement said he had not received any police invitation for questioning over the matter.
Meanwhile. Saraki is expected to appear before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) where he is standing trial for an alleged false declaration of asset later today, June 21.
